I am a Mississippian through and through, my mother (Martha Peeler) is from Ashland Mississippi and my father (Gene Hopkins) was from Walnut Mississippi.  My family moved to Desoto County Mississippi in 1970.  I attended Hope Sullivan Elementary in Southaven then Southaven Jr and Sr High School, graduating from SHS in May of 1980.
North West Mississippi Junior College was my next educational destination after which I attended Ole Miss. At Ole Miss I became a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

I have been employed for the last 33 years at Fedex and have enjoyed many various positions within the company. I am extremely proud of being a part of the Fedex family.

During my 1st session in the Mississippi Legislature I authored HB 81 a bill that passed unanimously and was signed into law by Governor Bryant. HB 81 provides that the first 5 death certificates are free to the families of veterans who have passed away. I discovered that our state was charging for these death certificates in 2015 when my father, a Korean war veteran, passed away. My first thoughts were for the young widow who just lost her husband in Afghanistan and then being told by the state that she would have to pay for a death certificate??? Hasnt she paid enough? My ultimate goal is to try and make Mississippi a retirement destination for all veterans who have served our country so valiantly.

In December of 1985 I married my wife of 31 years Beckie West Hopkins and we have four awesome children, Callison, Emily, Andrew and his wife Kerrie. In May of 2016 we welcomed our 1st grandchild, Wyatt Andrew Hopkins. Jesus is the cornerstone of our family and I am most proud that all of my family knows Him as our Lord and Savior.
